Where We Belong: An Exibition of the Printmaking Department at OSU

The art of printmaking isn't always what you think it might be. Especially when you put an exceptional program and a little creativity together.

Come and join the printmaking department at OSU as we showcase works from students, graduates, and faculty members. Check out what we are really about. We will show you that printmaking doesn't merely consist of words printed on a newspaper. Printmaking isn't just about the tequnique here at OSU. It's about the embodiment of a mindset, to always be advancing in your quest for visual communication and the exploration of ideas.

Our exhibition is located in the Silver Image Gallery on OSU campus in Haskett Hall. The Exhibit will remain open from October 8th until October 23rd.

We will host an opening reception on Friday, October 16th from 5pm to 7pm.

Printmaking at OSU

The Printmaking program operates in the manner of an integrated community, including all students (and any others) in the same critical environment of class, workshop, and dialogue (critiques or other). The graduate program operates in conjunction with the undergraduate program that stimulates and complements the development of ideas within this community of artists/printmakers. Everyone is challenged; everyone benefits. Community service and professional interaction continues with the student operated, quarterly monotype workshops open to the community outside the university.

Building on historical and contemporary attitudes in the art world, students are challenged to explore creative thinking through all printmaking media, with separate labs for: lithography, intaglio, relief, and screen printing, as well as photomechanical processes. The opportunity exists to develop links to computer imaging through a variety of computer labs on campus, including the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD), the Fergus Gilmore Computer Studio (FGCS) to the Photography area within the Department, and to other multiple interdisciplinary opportunities both within and outside the Department of Art. Critical dialogue between faculty and students further develops the bridge between idea and process.

With accessible computer imaging and manipulation as well as Photography, the Printmaking program at OSU is relatively unique in that it provides courses and facilities for all of the traditional printmaking processes: Intaglio, Lithography, Relief, and Screen-printing as well as Photomechanics.

Its definitive focus on comprehensive aesthetic, conceptual issues without limitations or compromises assures that the students (graduate and undergraduate, major or non-major) are likely among the best educated in the country. They are doers and thinkers, able to operate from comprehensive resources with independence assured. Consistent availability of classes, facilities, and faculty is a critical component of this design and its delivered promise.
